Since a year I'm a real fan of RSS feeds... Instead of browsing and searching for news about my favourite topics, the news comes automatically to me! I tried also a couple of feedreaders... FeedDemon, RSS Bandit etc.. Last month I've found FeedReader and since that moment I'm really happy with it.
- It's lighweight, so very fast;
- It's very easy and simple to use;
- It's localizable;
- It's free!

TechEd 2006 Developers has ended. It was a great event. A lot of sessions, our INETA booth and not forget to mention Speakers Idol. I made part of the judges and we were critical but fair. The speakers could win an own session slot on the next TechEd 2007, also in Barcelona. The final is won by Bart de Smet, who did a perfect job by letting the audience choose which topic they liked. He was amazing and of course he earned a place in the International Speakers Bureau of INETA Europe.

Today I installed the component package DXperience Enterprise. This set of tools is really amazing... WOW! As a MVP and chiefeditor for more then 10 years, I saw many component suites of different vendors. But what I saw today was really great. I have only one advise... visit their website, download an evalution version and play with it. You have all you need, Toolbars & Menus, Grid, Charting, Editors and a Reporting tool with enduser designer!
It is a long time ago that I saw I product, which looks so great! I know, you know the real value of such a suite after a couple of projects working with it, but I'm gonna like this toolkit. Highly recommended!

If you work with large solution which contains many projects, you know that finding specific (source)files can be a tough job.... until you use SonicFileFinder of Jens Schaller.

SonicFileFinder is a free add-in for Visual Studio 2005 that allows a fast and convenient search for any file within every Project of the loaded Solution by entering the complete filename or just a part of it. The found file(s) can either be edited with a single keystroke or a Windows Explorer can be opened at the file's location. Apply a shortcurt and within a couple of seconds you find the file you need, using the arrows keys you can easily scroll through the resultset and with Enter you open the file... in one word: Great!

Wow... Today's blog post of Soma Somasegar was suprising. Visual Studio.NET 2002 and Visual Studio.NET 2003 will not supported under Windows Vista! That's bad news for many and many developers who needs to support their product under this new OS.. Okay, your .NET 1.1 programs can run, but developing on this platform is not possible. Good news.. The Visual Basic 6 runtime, as well the Visual Basic 6 IDE will supported.
Some guys suggested to develop in an Virtual Machine like Virtual PC, but I think that will not be an option for most developers. Visual Studio 2005 is already slow, don't even speak about using it in a VM... Why does MS skipped the support? I can imagine that things like debugging can give some troubles, but as even MSFT developers cann't get it working.......?

Orca database editor for editing MSI Files |
|

Today I needed to open a Windows Installer (msi) file to check some settings/code. Microsoft provided us a little tool, called Orca, to fix that job. The Orca database editor is a table-editing tool available in the Windows Installer SDK and it can be used to edit your .msi files. The Orca editor edits and creates also merge module (.msm) files , Internal Consistency Evaluator (.cub) files, and patch creation files (.pcp).

But before you can use this tool, you must install the Windows Server 2003 Platform SDK. A download of about 400 Mb! Pretty big download for a tool which takes only 1,8Mb. I'll save you this trouble by providing the direct download here. Have fun!
